Boots Assistant Manager – Job Description
Are you someone who enjoys leading from the front, supporting people and making things happen day to day?
At Boots, being an Assistant Manager means creating a team and environment that customers and patients trust — somewhere they feel welcoming, looked after and want to come back to. Guided by our purpose, «With You. For Life», you’ll play a key role in bringing that to life, supporting your team to deliver care that really makes a difference to customers and colleagues in the moments that matter.
You’ll lead and support your team day to day — setting clear expectations, coaching individuals and helping them grow — while also taking ownership of how things run. From helping a customer find the right solution, to supporting safe and compliant pharmacy services, to driving standards and results behind the scenes, you’ll be at the heart of it all.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll balance people, performance and operations — leading your team, shaping the experience for customers and patients, and taking real ownership of how the store runs and performs. If you're looking for a role that enables you to make a real impact every day, this could be the opportunity for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an Assistant Manager, you’ll report into the Store Manager and get stuck in on the shop floor, coaching and supporting your team while role-modelling how great care and strong commercial performance go together.
You Will Be Responsible For:
- Leading your team to deliver strong performance while providing excellent customer care to customers and patients
- Creating a positive, supportive team environment where people feel confident, capable and motivated
- Coaching, developing and line-managing your team through regular conversations, feedback and clear expectations/goals
- Being responsible for day-to-day store operations, including planning, scheduling, staffing and workload prioritisation
- Maintaining high standards across the store — ensuring it is clean, safe and easy to shop
- Taking ownership of stock availability, cost control and loss prevention
- Ensuring the store is always safe, legal and compliant by completing audits, checks and risk assessments
- Using data, reports and in-store insights to identify opportunities and take action
- Leading the store confidently in the absence of the Store Manager, taking accountability for decisions and performance

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
