Assistant Manager
Assistant Manager – Retail (Pharmacy & Beauty)
Are you someone who enjoys leading from the front, supporting people, and making things happen day to day?
At Boots, being an Assistant Manager means creating a team and environment that customers and patients trust — somewhere they feel welcomed, looked after, and want to return to. Guided by our purpose: “With You. For Life.”, you’ll play a key role in delivering care that truly makes a difference.
About the Role
You’ll lead and support your team day-to-day, balancing people, performance and operations. Whether it’s helping a customer find the right solution, ensuring compliant pharmacy services, or driving operational excellence, you’ll be at the very heart of it.
This is a hands-on leadership role—ideal if you’re looking to make a direct, impactful difference every day.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an Assistant Manager, you’ll report to the Store Manager, getting hands-on with team coaching and setting an example of how great customer care and commercial success go hand in hand.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead your team to deliver strong performance while maintaining excellent customer care
- Foster a positive, supportive culture where everyone feels confident, motivated, and empowered
- Coach, develop, and line manage your team through regular feedback, goal-setting, and expectations
- Oversee day-to-day store operations, including scheduling, stocking, and prioritising tasks
- Ensure the store remains clean, safe, and customer-friendly
- Take ownership of stock control, cost management, and loss prevention strategies
- Maintain strict compliance, safety, and operational standards through audits and risk assessments
- Use data and reports to spot opportunities and implement improvements
- Step into leadership when the Store Manager is absent, taking full accountability for performance and decision-making

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
