Assistant Manager – Automotive Service & Repair

About the Role
As an Assistant Manager, you’ll work beside the Centre Manager to deliver productive leadership, drive profitability, and enhance the customer journey across our well-established Halfords Autocentre.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading a fast-paced workshop environment, collaborating directly with technicians to maintain high-standard service.
- Supporting the Centre Manager with daily operations, customer service, and sales performance.
- Ensuring operational excellence while balancing profitability, cost efficiency, and service excellence.
Ideally, you’ve gained previous hands-on experience as a mechanic or management expertise in a similar commercial environment. Excellent progression and training opportunities await those who excel in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Coach and mentor technicians, reinforcing expertise in vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, and repair.
- Lead the customer service experience, ensuring satisfaction and loyalty.
- Enhance workshop efficiency, troubleshooting and optimising vehicle service workflows.
- Assist with health & safety compliance, compliance auditing, and workplace organisation.
- Admin for sales, warranties, and timing policy engagements alongside the Centre Manager.

Requirements
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Proven ability to deliver high-level customer satisfaction through strong leadership & management skills.
- Hands-on technical knowledge – preferably holding or equivalently demonstrating a Level 2 or Level 3 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification or equivalent practical experience.
- Management experience, including coaching & training colleagues effectively.
- Compliance skills in maintaining Health & Safety standards.
- Education or work history relevant to IT software and business systems—willing to learn new tools.
- Superior organised time management, multitasking in a fast-paced workshop environment.
- Full, valid driving licence (nationally recognized by the recruitment team).
- Bringing your own tools to maximise efficiency in a well-equipped workshop.
Note: No formal degree required – we value skills and experience above qualifications!
What We Offer
Competitive On-Target Earnings: Up to £43,000 (£37,000 base salary plus uncapped bonus scheme averaging £6,000/year) Work Hours: Standard five-day workweek (Sundays are closed).
