Assistant Manager – JD Sports

About JD Group

Established in 1981 from a single store in the Northwest of England, JD Group is a leading omni-channel retailer of Sports Fashion, Outdoors, and Gyms. Operating across multiple international markets, JD Sports Fashion Plc was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1996 and has been a FTSE100 company since 2019.

"Born in 1981. Built for now. At JD, we don’t just sell—we set trends, challenge boundaries, and build communities. Every role here shapes the future of our industry."

The Role: Why Join JD Sports?

We’re a fast-paced, fearless, and ambitious team. If you thrive in a collaborative, authentic environment—where great ideas are valued and problems are solved together—we want to bring your talent into our fold. You’ll:

  • Drive performance alongside the Store Manager to achieve sales targets and operational excellence.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop your team, ensuring JD standards are met daily.
  • Shape a winning culture in a customer-focused, premium retail environment.
  • Break boundaries, create impact, and help JD redefine the future of sports retail.

Role Overview

As Assistant Manager, you’ll be a key support to your Store Manager, playing an active role in shaping commercial success, team performance, and operational standards. If you’re ready to lead confidently, set high standards, and turn teamwork into outstanding results, this is your opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Store Operations: Assist the Manager to meet sales targets and core KPIs across the store.
  • Team Leadership: Lead colleagues on the shop floor, allocating tasks, supporting service delivery, and ensuring JD’s standards are upheld.
  • Development & Feedback: Offer real-time coaching and reinforce Store Manager expectations—empowering your team to grow.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Maintain high presentation and operational standards (availability, pricing accuracy, tidy displays, safety).
    • Assist with financial duties including cash handling, till checks, delivery processing, stock audits, and daily opening/closing routines.
  • Reporting & Problem-solving: Escalate issues appropriately and help address challenges in a data-driven way.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
