Assistant Manager
Deputy General Manager | The Mill on the Exe
The Mill on the Exe is a contemporary pub with comfortable rooms, nestled in a tranquil riverside location just outside Exeter’s city centre.
Join this inspiring role, where you’ll motivate a passionate team, support and occasionally step into the role of General Manager, all while enjoying the serene beauty of the riverside setting—complete with gardens, waterfalls, and close access to everything Exeter has to offer.
About the Role
What You’ll Be Doing
- Taking the reins when the General Manager is away, ensuring smooth and efficient operations
- Leading a team to deliver outstanding experiences, fostering a warm and welcoming atmosphere from the moment guests arrive
- Monitoring customer feedback and driving continuous improvement to maintain high standards
- Supporting the full team—Front of House, Back of House, and Kitchen—during peak times to guarantee exceptional service
- Overseeing the consistent production of high-quality food while recognising the vital role of the Kitchen Team
- Providing guidance and support to team members, ensuring everyone has the tools they need to thrive
- Managing admin and cash systems with meticulous attention to detail when the General Manager is unavailable
- Maintaining full knowledge of health and safety regulations, ensuring compliance at all times
- Acting as an inspirational leader and mentor, fostering a positive team culture and professional development
- Developing your own skills with the ambition to eventually progress to General Manager
