Assistant Store Manager – Harrogate New Store Launch
We’ve got an exciting new project on the go. We’re opening a brand-new store in Harrogate, and we’re looking for a commercial, driven Assistant Manager to help lead the team and drive performance from day one.
At 15,000 square feet, this unique layout combines a fast-moving retail trade business with a high-ticket Kitchen & Bathroom showroom. Working closely with the Store Manager, you’ll manage both high-volume trade and premium project sales, develop the new team, and ensure operational excellence—making this the perfect role to showcase your leadership and advance your retail management career.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Store Assistant Manager, you’re on the front line, ready to help customers, lead teams, and keep operations running smoothly. This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Support the Store Manager and step in as the lead when they’re absent
- Drive sales and exceptional service to deliver results
- Inspire and support colleagues to enhance customer experiences
- Ensure safety, compliance, and operational excellence across the store
- Manage day-to-day operations and all store functions
Wickes operates across four key areas:
- Helping customers find products with ease (self-serve)
- Supporting large home projects from design to installation (showroom)
- Delivering outstanding sales experiences (assisted selling)
- Ensuring smooth order fulfilment

WHAT YOU FIND ATTRACTIVE IN THIS ROLE

Technical experience is helpful, but behaviour and mindset matter most.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- A hands-on, solution-driven approach willing to get involved in all areas of the store
- Strong problem-solving skills in a dynamic environment
- Ability to balance customer needs, team support, and operational priorities
- Confidence in using systems and technology for daily tasks
- Full UK driving license (with some flexibility for occasional nearby store support)
- Great communication and teamwork skills
