We're looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Assistant Manager to join our team in a varied and rewarding role that spans both our Farmshop & Kitchen and our events venue. What You'll Be Doing
Supporting Our Farmshop & Kitchen
As Assistant Manager, you'll work alongside the Farmshop Manager to help keep everything running smoothly day to day.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the daily operation of the Farmshop & Kitchen, including opening and closing procedures.
- Leading, motivating and developing our front-of-house team to deliver the warm, friendly service Barra Castle is known for.
- Maintaining the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness and health & safety throughout our retail and dining spaces.
- Helping create a welcoming atmosphere where every visitor enjoys a memorable experience.

Bringing Events to Life at The Barn
From intimate celebrations to beautiful weddings, you'll play a key role in ensuring every event runs seamlessly.
You'll be responsible for:
- Welcoming couples, clients and guests with professionalism and genuine hospitality.
- Supporting final planning meetings and helping bring each client's vision to life.
- Overseeing the smooth delivery of weddings, celebrations and corporate events, coordinating room set-ups, managing bar and front-of-house teams, and working alongside trusted suppliers.
- Liaising with our housekeeping team to ensure guest stays in The Lodges at Barra Castle are perfectly coordinated alongside each event.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who:
- Has at least 1–2 years' experience in a supervisory or assistant management role within hospitality, cafés, premium retail or events.
- Is confident leading a team and enjoys supporting and developing others.
- Thrives in a busy, varied environment and can adapt from daytime Farmshop operations to evening events.
- Has excellent organisational and communication skills, with a calm, positive approach under pressure.
- Takes pride in delivering exceptional customer service and creating memorable experiences for every guest.
- Shares our passion for Scottish food, local produce and genuine hospitality.
- Holds a full UK driving licence and has access to reliable transport, as Barra Castle is located in Oldmeldrum.
