Assistant Manager
Assistant Manager – Boots
Are you someone who enjoys leading from the front, supporting people and making things happen day to day?
At Boots, being an Assistant Manager means creating a team and environment that customers and patients trust — a space where they feel welcome, looked after, and want to return. Guided by our purpose, “With You. For Life.”, you’ll play a key role in bringing that vision to life, supporting your team to deliver care that makes a real difference in customers’ and colleagues’ lives every day.
You’ll lead and support your team passionately, setting clear expectations, coaching individuals, and fostering growth — while also taking ownership of store operations, from assisting customers and managing compliant pharmacy services to driving performance standards and commercial success.
This is a hands-on leadership role, balancing people, performance, and operations. Whether you’re leading your team, shaping customer experiences, or ensuring smooth store operations, this is a chance to make a tangible impact every single day.
What You’ll Be Doing
As Assistant Manager, you’ll report directly to the Store Manager and roll up your sleeves on the shop floor, coaching your team and setting the standard for excellent care and strong commercial outcomes.
You Will:
- Lead your team to deliver strong performance in both customer care and commercial success
- Foster a positive, supportive work environment where employees feel confident, capable, and motivated
- Coach, develop and line manage your team through regular feedback, clear expectations, and goal-setting
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the store, including planning, scheduling, staffing, and workload prioritisation
- Maintain high standards across all areas of the store, ensuring it is clean, safe, and easy to navigate
- Oversee stock availability, cost control, and loss prevention
- Ensure full compliance, safety, and operational standards by completing audits, checks, and risk assessments
- Use data, reports, and in-store insights to identify opportunities and drive action
- Lead the store confidently in the absence of the Store Manager, making informed decisions and taking accountability for performance

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
