The Role

Position: Assistant Manager (permanent full-time) Location: Reading, Berkshire Department: Accounting & Financial Reporting Reporting to: Manager / Senior Manager / Associate Director

Role Summary

As an Assistant Manager, you’ll take ownership of a portfolio of clients, leading finance operations with precision and strategic insight. You’ll mentor junior team members, ensure accurate month-end and year-end processes, and foster long-term client relationships through technical expertise and efficient operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Client Operations
    • Lead monthly management accounts and ensure timely, high-quality submission for all allocated clients.
    • Support and mentor junior team members across global offices (including Mauritius and India).
    • Oversee client payment processes and billing reconciliation.
    • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and clients to maintain strong working relationships.

  • Financial Reporting

    • Provide technical accounting advice and resolve complexities around VAT, corporation tax, P11Ds, and PAYE/SPSAs filings.
    • Align with IFRS and UK GAAP standards for financial statements compliance.
    • Handle year-end reporting, statement preparation, and audit coordination.
  • Processes & Compliance

    • Assist with debt management and team development initiatives.
    • Improve existing processes to support scalability and operational efficiency.
    • Ensure adherence to tax compliance regulations and cross-jurisdictional practices.
  • Continuous Improvement

    • Proactively engage in projects to enhance client service and operational effectiveness.
    • Support the business development acumen of the team by isolating growth opportunities.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA-qualified with comprehensive accounting knowledge.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in management account preparation, preferably in a multi-format (multi-currency/multi-jurisdiction) client environment.
  • Proven ability to mentor junior team members while maintaining strong technical accountability.

  • High technical prowess in complex accounting processes and regulatory submission frameworks.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and adaptable to competing deadlines and strategic priorities.
  • Strong organisational skills with a willingness to continually refine operational workflows.
  • Exceptional verbal & written communication – fluent at engaging with clients, senior management teams, and across global teams.
  • Collaborative team player with a "can-do" positive attitude, able to advocate for improvements.
  • Interest in business growth and a mindset focused on contributing to the organisational development agenda.
