Assistant Manager

Are you someone who enjoys leading from the front, supporting people and making things happen day to day?

At Boots, being an Assistant Manager means creating a team and environment that customers and patients trust, somewhere they feel welcome, looked after and want to come back to. Guided by our purpose, “With You. For Life.”, you’ll play a key role in bringing this to life, supporting your team to deliver care that makes a real difference to customers and colleagues in the moments that matter.

About the Role

You’ll lead and support your team day to day — setting clear expectations, coaching individuals, and helping them grow — while also taking ownership of how things run. From assisting customers with their needs and supporting safe, compliant pharmacy services, to driving results behind the scenes, you’ll be at the heart of operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll balance people, performance, and operations:

  • Leading your team
  • Shaping the experience for customers and patients
  • Taking ownership of store running and performance

If you're looking for a role that enables you to make a real impact every day, this could be the opportunity for you.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Assistant Manager, you’ll report to the Store Manager and will be right on the shop floor, coaching, supporting your team, and demonstrating how great care and strong commercial performance align.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead your team to deliver strong performance while ensuring excellent customer care for all patients.
  • Create a positive, supportive team environment where employees feel confident, capable, and motivated.
  • Coach, develop, and line-manage your team through regular conversations, feedback, and setting clear expectations and goals.
  • Be responsible for daily store operations, including:
    • Planning, scheduling, and staffing
    • Prioritising workloads efficiently
  • Maintain high standards across the store:
    • Ensuring it is clean, safe, and easy to shop in.
  • Take ownership of:
    • Stock availability and control
    • Cost management and loss prevention
  • Ensure compliance, safety, and regulatory standards by:
    • Conducting audits and risk assessments
    • Completing necessary checks
  • Leverage data, reports, and in-store insights to identify opportunities and drive action.
  • Lead the store confidently when the Store Manager is absent:
    • Accountability for decisions and performance.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
