Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Assistant Manager role based in Basildon. The Assistant Manager will support the day-to-day running of the branch, including supervising staff, coordinating deliveries, managing stock levels, and ensuring orders are processed accurately and on time. The role involves working closely with the Director and wider team to maintain efficient operations, support customer service standards, and help resolve operational issues. Responsibilities also include assisting with supplier communication, monitoring health and safety compliance, and contributing to process improvements and cost control. The Assistant Manager will be expected to lead by example on the shop floor, support training of team members, and help maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.

Qualifications

- Experience in operations or branch management within construction materials, groundwork supplies, or a similar trade environment.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple orders and deliveries.
- Proven people-management abilities, including team supervision, workload allocation, and supporting staff development.
- Customer service skills with the ability to build relationships, handle enquiries, and resolve issues professionally and promptly.
- Basic understanding of inventory control, purchasing processes, and stock management systems.
- Competence using standard office software and, ideally, experience with trade or warehouse management systems.
- Awareness of health and safety requirements in a warehouse or yard environment and commitment to safe working practices.
- Previous experience in a supervisory role and knowledge of groundwork or landscaping materials are highly beneficial.
- Full eligibility to work in the UK and the ability to work on-site in Basildon on a full-time basis.
