About the Role
A full-time position exists within the Anaesthetic department at Scunthorpe General Hospital. The successful candidate will act as an Assistant Medical Secretary, supporting the Senior Clinical Secretary in delivering high-quality, efficient administrative services that enhance patient care pathways.
As the first point of contact for administrative matters, the role requires a customer-focused, knowledgeable professional who ensures seamless support for patients and clinicians while maintaining accessibility and responsiveness.
Key Responsibilities
The Assistant Medical Secretary will manage general clerical and administrative duties, ensuring smooth operation across the patient care pathway. Core responsibilities include:
- Patient and Appointment Management
- Registering referrals efficiently
- Appointing patients and supporting the appointment scheduling process
- Inputting accurate data into patient/client records

Pathway Coordination
- Tracking inpatient and outpatient care pathways
- Ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Supporting all administrative aspects of the Referral to Treatment Access Policy (RTT)

- Maintaining clear, professional communication regarding patient care
- Adhering to NHS policies and ensuring all actions align with regulatory requirements
