Assistant MEP Manager - Commercial Retrofit Central London

We are working with an established European construction group that is delivering a major commercial retrofit project in Central London.

The project involves the refurbishment of around 10,000m² of high-end office space. They are now looking for an Assistant MEP Manager to join the project team and support the delivery of the mechanical and electrical services.

This is a hands-on role working closely with the MEP Manager, subcontractors, consultants, and the wider site team.

It is likely to suit someone with one to four years' experience working for a building services contractor who wants to develop into a broader project delivery role.

Unlike some MEP positions within a main contractor, this role will involve direct involvement in the detail of the building services packages, including design information, procurement, installation, quality, and programme.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience on commercial fit-out, refurbishment, or retrofit projects would be useful, although it is not essential.

This is a good opportunity for an Assistant MEP Manager, Building Services Engineer, or MEP Project Engineer who wants more responsibility and exposure across the full project lifecycle.
