Assistant Merchandiser – Vacancy Overview
Location: Bury Head Office (JD Sports Fashion fascia) Role: Supports a Merchandiser to ensure optimal stock availability, maximise product potential, and collaborate with all levels of the business.
### Responsibilities
📊 Plan (5%)
- Support with product mix reporting and analysis
- Assist in range planning at a store level with the Merchandiser/Buyer
- Set brand/division/category plans (SAM)
- Load plans in WSSI after product mix meetings
📋 Order (15%)
- Create accurate size ratios for all purchases
- Ensure planners are aligned with the order-raising process
- Support Merchandise Assistants in creating upload-based purchase orders
- Reconcile supplier order books and flag anomalies for bigger brands

🏪 Stock (20%)
- Collaborate with the Buying team to collate bookings
- Prioritise intake and optimise stock placement with Merchandiser guidance
- Build strong supplier relationships
📈 Trade (60%) (Core focus)
- Review reports to prepare weekly trade emails; generate focus points for:
- Yourself
- The Merchandise Assistant
- Analyse sales to propose:
- Cancellations
- Rephasing
- Markdowns (for Merchandiser approval)
- Identify:
- Over-/underperforming stores
- Fast-track priority lines (ITB, IBT)
- Review branch trade actions for Assistant follow-up
- Undertake store visits, collate reports, and share feedback
- Contribute to new/refit stock packages
- Linecard management (AM/SAM):
- Setup and review linecards
- Use data to suggest stock/option level adjustments
- Propose markdown suggestions
- Ensure range plans achieve planned options
- Oversee the Merchandise Assistant’s weekly tasks
- Build collaborative relationships across teams
### Requirements
The ideal candidate:
- Passionate about JD and its brands and customers
- Basic merchandising knowledge and analytical skills (focused on numbers)
- Microsoft Office skills (Excel proficiency highly-valued)
- Highly organised with sharp attention to detail
- Strong communicator with relationship-building skills
- Proactive and initiative-driven (self-motivated problem-solving)
