We are recruiting an Assistant Practitioner to join our Duty Service. You will be part of a team working with all incoming referrals to the service.
You will support in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of people at immediate risk, provide advice, guidance, and signposting.
You will ensure that people who are able to wait for longer term support can do so safely and you will liaise with colleagues in other parts of the service to ensure that care arrangements are in place.
This is a very busy and fast-paced role.
You will have direct contact with people and families over the telephone but will not be required to carry out home visits.
We're looking to appoint either a Supported Assistant Practitioner (Scale F) or an experienced Assistant Practitioner (Scale G) and require a CV and Supporting Statement from you. In your application, you should set out how you meet the essential and desirable criteria of each of the roles, so we advise reading the full Job Description and Person Specification for each first before applying:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
