About the Role
Are you an experienced and compassionate healthcare professional with a passion for neonatal care?
We’re offering an exciting opportunity to join our evolving Special Care Baby Unit at Glangwili General Hospital.
Our unit provides:
- Short-term intensive care
- High dependency care
- Special care for neonates
- A strong focus on evidence-based practice and family-centred care
- Recent developments include a dedicated 4-cot Transitional Care Unit and a Neonatal Outreach Service supporting families in the community.
We are seeking a motivated Assistant Practitioner to join our friendly, skilled team. You will work across a day/night rotation, delivering direct care, supporting junior staff and student nurses, and ensuring safe, comprehensive handovers.
Your Aim in This Role
To provide safe, effective, and compassionate care to neonates, supporting families and contributing to junior staff development—while upholding the highest clinical practice and professional integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct care delivery to neonates, including:
- Monitoring and recording vital signs
- Performing blood sampling
- Maintaining accurate written and electronic records (e.g., WNCR)
- Supporting safe handover of care under registered staff supervision
- Safeguarding and confidentiality:
- Adherence to information governance and safeguarding legislation
- Autonomy and teamwork:
- Working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Minimal oversight by registered nurses in decision-making
- Staff support and education:
- Teaching and mentoring junior staff and pre-registration student nurses
- Ensuring continuity of 24-hour care across all shifts

Requirements and Skills
Essential:
- Proven experience in neonatal care
- Strong clinical and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Sound knowledge of safeguarding and information governance
- Commitment to continuous professional development
Desirable (but not essential):
- Fluency in the Welsh language
