Background
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team delivering the new international Joint Education Programme (JEP) in Biomedical Science between the University of Birmingham (UoB) and the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in China.
UoB has over 10 years’ experience delivering educational programmes in China starting with Mathematics at Jinan University which was established in 2011. UoB is building upon this success by setting up this this new JEP at HUST which is in Hubei province in Central China.
The programme and HUST
Launching in September 2025, the new JEP will allow students to gain a BSc Biomedical Sciences Honours degree from UoB and a Pharmacy degree from HUST over the course of 4 years. Students will study both programmes in parallel, gaining knowledge and experience in both subjects over a shorter amount of time than would be required if studying the individual degree programmes. All material will be delivered in English in China and the successful candidate will only be required to teach on the UoB part of the course.
In 2026, the JEP will move from the main HUST campus to the brand new HUST Junshan International campus in Wuhan.
HUST is a top University in China and is currently ranked 9th nationally and 100th in the world (US News and World Report, Best Global Universities). At HUST there are approximately 55,000 students of which 3,400 are international students from 155 countries. The main campus of HUST is in the city of Wuhan and is known as the “the University in the Forest” due to the abundance of trees and beautiful green spaces across its 460 hectares.
Wuhan has a long and rich history that dates back 3500 years with many historical buildings and temples including the Yellow Crane Tower. With 1.3 million students, the city of Wuhan is the largest college town in the world and is nicknamed “the city of rivers” as the Yangtze, the 3rd longest river in the world and its biggest tributary the Han flow through the city.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
