Applications are invited for an indefinite Assistant Professorship in Politics and International Studies (South Asia) in the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) at the University of Warwick, starting at the beginning of the academic year 2026–27. The appointment will be made at FA7 of the University of Warwick salary scale.


PAIS hosts an established community of scholars focused on the politics, political economy, and international relations of the Global South/majority world. We seek an outstanding researcher and educator specialising in South Asia to enhance our research and teaching profile.

Preferred Areas of Expertise Include:

  • Politics, foreign policy, and regional relations of South Asian states
  • Regional security and territorial politics
  • Political economy
  • Environment and energy security
  • Gender and politics
  • Borders, migration, and mobility
  • Colonialism, decolonisation, race, empire, or postcolonial politics in South Asia and broader global contexts

The successful candidate will design and teach modules on South Asian politics and international relations, supervise dissertations, and contribute to our undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Those with innovative theoretical, methodological, or interdisciplinary approaches are particularly encouraged to apply.

About You

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • A strong research trajectory with internationally leading publications
  • Experience securing competitive external research funding
  • A commitment to academic impact beyond disciplinary boundaries

While designing and teaching modules on South Asian politics, you will also:

  • Supervise undergraduate (UG) and Masters-level (PGT) dissertations
  • Shape curriculum development through specialist contributions
  • Promote equal-opportunity principles in teaching
