The University of Warwick is seeking applications for a 0.4 FTE Assistant Professor (teaching track) to deliver teaching centred on quantitative methods, with an interest in interdisciplinary education to support teaching and learning on its BASc in Liberal Arts and Sciences and BA in Liberal Arts undergraduate degree programmes.
This is a fixed-term contract post available from 1 October 2026 until 31 July 2028.
About You
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and delivery of interdisciplinary core and optional undergraduate modules centred on quantitative methods and ontological perspectives.
Our ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching quantitative methods in an interdisciplinary teaching and learning environment, and a belief in the benefits and advantages to be derived from an education in the Liberal Arts and Sciences. They will have an appreciation of why quantitative methods are essential to a Liberal Arts education, and be able to engage and support students who are both familiar and less confident about working with numerical reasoning.
They will be familiar with Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and student-led learning more widely, or be willing to adopt PBL approaches.
As this role centres on teaching quantitative methods and approaches, the candidate must have a disciplinary or interdisciplinary specialism that has required statistical training. Our ideal candidate may have a background in economics, psychology, statistics, health and epidemiology, or other quantitative social science background.
They will be able to stimulate and enthuse students from a diverse range of backgrounds and possess a desire to contribute to the development of Liberal Arts and Sciences education.
They will join a small team of academics who are committed to the mission of Liberal education and who believe in the importance of offering students a challenging and relevant experience of higher education.
The Assistant Professor will work closely with other academic staff to deliver elements of our exciting and innovative flagship programmes. They will be expected to play a key role in the design and delivery of teaching and learning materials by convening and delivering core and optional modules in the first, second and final years, with additional potential opportunities to teach on postgraduate modules in the School for Cross-Faculty Studies. They may also be involved in other teaching and support activities, such as dissertation supervision and personal tutoring, and administrative roles.

About The Department
The University of Warwick launched its BA in Liberal Arts in 2016. The BA is ranked as the best Liberal Arts programme in the UK (Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide). Our course has been described as a model for such programmes in the UK, with a wide range of unique modules, dedicated interdisciplinary lecturers, and support staff. This innovative course represents a key element in Warwick's strategy to offer programmes that create leaders in diverse fields; people who understand the key problems in a wide range of areas and who are capable of deploying a range of intellectual tools to address and tackle these challenges. Structured around our unique use of Problem-Based Learning and underpinned by the well-established Liberal Arts education ethos which takes an innovative and cross-disciplinary approach, the BA course allows students to tailor their own pathway through the degree to suit their intellectual interests. Alongside bespoke core Liberal Arts modules developed specifically for the course, students choose modules which correspond to their subject discipline or specialist interest area. The BASc combines the flexibility and interdisciplinary structure of the BA with greater opportunity to focus on science - or social science-based subjects. Working with partner departments, BASc students will end up with a deeper focus in certain areas while retaining access to the focus on development of critical thinking skills that cuts across disciplines.
