Job Summary

An Assistant Project Manager is required to join the team to support the successful delivery of design projects across our business.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career project professional to develop their skills within a design consultancy environment. You will work closely with senior project managers and multidisciplinary design teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Key Objectives

Reporting to a Senior Project Manager, duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the delivery of projects in line with agreed time, cost, and quality parameters.
  • Assist in maintaining project plans, schedules, and documentation.
  • Contribute to the coordination of internal design teams and external stakeholders (clients, consultants, contractors).
  • Support the monitoring of project progress and highlight risks or delays to senior team members.
  • Promote a positive Health and Safety culture, particularly in relation to design risk management.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and meeting notes for internal and client-facing meetings.
  • Attend and actively contribute to project meetings, ensuring actions are captured and followed up.
  • Assist in cost tracking, budgeting, and financial reporting under supervision.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and clients.
  • Support bid and proposal work, including preparation of programme information and documentation.
  • Ensure project information is well organized, up to date, and accessible.
  • Continuously develop knowledge of project management processes, tools, and the design lifecycle.

Essential Skills And Competencies

The jobholder should be a proactive and organised individual, possessing:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A relevant qualification (HNC/HND/Degree preferred in construction, engineering or project management)
  • A keen interest in project management within a design or consultancy environment
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively
  • Basic understanding of project planning tools and processes
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Collaborative team player with a willingness to learn and develop
  • Commercial awareness and willingness to build financial understanding
  • Personal integrity, adaptability, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in a consultancy, design, or built environment setting
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g. APM, PRINCE2)
  • Working towards a professional qualification (APM, PRINCE2, PMI, or similar)
  • Experience using project management or planning tools (e.g. MS Project, Excel)
