Assistant Project Manager

Location: Isle of Wight and Hampshire - Hybrid based on operational requirement
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full time
Salary: Up to £45K per annum
Additional Requirements: Regular site visits required across the Southern Water region. A full UK driving licence is essential.

About the Role
Southern Water is looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join our Capital Delivery team.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of high-profile water infrastructure projects. These projects help shape the future of water services and support reliable, sustainable outcomes for our customers and communities.

Capital Delivery plays a key role in planning, managing and delivering large infrastructure projects across the Southern Water region. These projects help us meet regulatory requirements, improve services and protect the environment.

You will work with Project Managers, Delivery Partners, operational teams, and other key stakeholders. You will help make sure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the right quality standards.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Support the delivery of water infrastructure projects through regular site visits, monitoring progress against programme, recording key project metrics, and providing accurate reporting updates.
  • Promote safe, compliant, and high-quality project delivery by monitoring health and safety, environmental performance, water quality, and customer experience across project sites.
  • Assist with project planning and controls, including risk management, Early Warnings through CEMAR, progress meetings, shutdown planning, and stakeholder communications.
  • Build strong working relationships with delivery partners, operational teams, customers, landowners, and other stakeholders to support successful project outcomes and resolve site issues.
  • Support project governance and handover activities, including construction assurance, review of project documentation, asset integration, and completion of project close-out requirements.

What you’ll bring to the role:

Essential

  • A full UK driving licence, as the role is around 70% site-based.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to record clear, accurate project information.
  • Good communication skills, with the confidence to work with site teams, customers, operational colleagues, and delivery partners.
  • A proactive approach to health, safety, environmental performance, and customer experience.
  • An interest in project delivery, construction, infrastructure, or utilities.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting project or programme delivery within water, utilities, infrastructure, or construction.
  • Experience working on site-based construction or engineering projects.
  • A project management or construction-related qualification.
  • Certifications such as APM, IOSH, or EUSR.
  • Experience using CEMAR or similar project management systems.
