Assistant Project Manager – Rail Systems (UK)

Within our Complex Project Business, we offer whole-life cycle solutions in project management, controls, quality, technical assurance, and asset management, delivering large-scale projects worldwide. Project delivery excellence is central to our success, and we’re expanding our Assistant Project Manager roles within our Rail Systems business to support UK-based projects.

You’ll play a pivotal leadership role, working across multi-disciplinary rails bids, tenders, and operational enhancements, delivered by collaborative teams—Ireland, USA, Australia, India, and UK.
Your Role
You’ll be a critical extendable support within our right projects teams, contributing to complex railway bids and programmes. Here’s how you’ll make an impact:
- Whole-life cycle support: Assist in delivering projects from planning and tendering through to completion, ensuring strict adherence to safety, cost, schedule, and quality standards by employers like Network Rail and DfT across the UK.
- Multi-disciplinary co-ordination: Partner with engineers, designers, and external stakeholders to align AtkinsRéalis standards with integrated clients‘ visions, de-risking supply chains’ delivery sustainably.
- Bid/tender contributions: Support in preparing competitiveness by compiling technical and commercial due diligence portfolios, as per requirements.
- Schedule, budget, and quality alignment: Apply risk management, cost control, timetable discipline, and tools in the medium-large project workflow for high canalisms.
- Client and stakeholder engagement: Develop relationships, ensure transparency, and benchmark performance against industry standards.
- Talent development: Mentor and train colleagues, nurturing a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge gain.
- Adaptable leadership: Explore potential for project-scopening growth and localisation opportunities (availability in Ireland and the USA relevant).

Requirements
We’re looking for candidates enthusiastic about development and delivering technically sound, secure, and customer-approved projects under UK requirements. **Ideal experience—**clinical alignment:
- Educational background: Degree level within engineering, construction, project management, or a related discipline.
- Project management foundations: Proven exposure through governance principles, MS Project, and basic cost/schedule controls.
- Valid full UK driver’s license—essential for undergoing transport security tests.
- Rail sector familiarity appreciated (not mandatory); transferable general commercial delivery environments are welcome.
- Modern Microsoft (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and collaboration technologies (Document Capture, BIM 360).
- American candidates beware: while overseas teams offer bright opportunities prior testing to install ‘UK+CSA2’ vetch and apex. Successful candidates post-hire must meet internal clearance regulatory UK Government Clearance requirements².
