Assistant Project Manager – Water Quality & Environmental Programmes

Location: Remote (Wales-based with occasional travel to office locations and project sites as required)

Pay rate and hours: £19.54 p/hr, Monday-Friday, 37 hours per week

Contract until: 31st December 2026

About the Role

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of an important environmental programme focused on improving water quality across Wales' river catchments and Special Areas of Conservation (SACs). Working closely with the Project Manager, you will assist in coordinating projects that assess and improve water quality, with a particular focus on nutrient management and environmental compliance within Welsh waterways. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in environmental planning, water quality, ecology, environmental regulation or related disciplines who is keen to develop their project management career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager in the planning, coordination and delivery of environmental projects.
  • Assist with the review and interpretation of water quality and nutrient monitoring data.
  • Support projects aimed at improving the ecological status of rivers and protected habitats across Wales.
  • Monitor project progress, risks, actions and reporting requirements.
  • Liaise with internal teams, regulators, consultants and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate project documentation, governance and programme reporting.
  • Contribute to the development of evidence and recommendations that support environmental decision-making.
  • Assist with ensuring project compliance with relevant environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.

We're looking for someone who combines strong organisational and project coordination skills with a good understanding of environmental and water quality issues.

You may have experience in:

  • Water Quality Management
  • Ecology or Environmental Science
  • River Catchment Management
  • Environmental Regulation
  • Project Coordination or Project Management

Essential Skills

  • Experience supporting or coordinating projects.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret technical or environmental data.
  • Excellent organisational and planning abilities.
  • Strong report writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently within a remote environment.

Knowledge of the following would be highly beneficial:

  • Special Areas of Conservation (SACs)
  • Habitat Regulations
  • Water Framework Directive (WFD)
  • Nutrient neutrality and nutrient management
  • Water quality assessment and reporting
  • Environmental permitting or planning processes
