Assistant Project Manager
Assistant Project Manager – Reservoir Maintenance (Fixed Term, Hampshire/Isle of Wight)
Closing Date: 13/07/2026 Location: Otterbourne (with travel to the Isle of Wight as required) – Hybrid Contract Type: Fixed term, ending August 2027 Hours: 37 per week Salary: Up to £42,000 per annum (depending on skills and experience)
About the Role
We’re seeking an Assistant Project Manager to play a critical role in managing Southern Water’s Reservoir Maintenance Programme across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Your work will help align Southern Water with the DWI (Drinking Water Inspectorate) industry standard, ensuring all service reservoirs undergo 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year inspections as required.
As part of this programme, you’ll:
- Coordinate reservoir maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with timelines and quality standards.
- Understand and enforce reservoir isolation protocols, including both physical isolation and network compatibility.
- Collaborate with operations teams and contractors to maintain programme performance and adherence to governance processes.
- Oversee site safety and health & safety (H&S), including contractor management and risk reviews.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Delivery & Coordination
- Monitor and forecast reservoir inspections to ensure targets are met.
- Oversee reservoir-related maintenance works, liaising with contractors to guarantee on-time delivery.
Reservoir Operations & Compliance
- Conduct reservoir inspections, including contact tanks, break pressure tanks, and all water storage assets.
- Ensure safety isolation protocols align with operational and network demands.
- Develop emergency isolation plans, detailing valve operations, environmental constraints, and stakeholder engagement.
- Produce and validate risk assessments, method statements, and single contact orders (SCOs) for reservoir activities.

Contractor Management & Document Control
- Manage small-scale enabling works required for reservoir isolation.
- Validate contractor progress and escalate risks related to programme timelines, cost, and quality.
Independent Assignments
- Execute tasks assigned by senior project managers, including additional operational and technical assignments.
Attributes & Requirements
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience with valve operations and familiarity with water processes/networks.
- Strong IT proficiency and organisational skills to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to prioritise tasks efficiently and work independently.
Preferred Experience
- Project management experience (or a strong operational background).
- Working within hybrid/remote environments.
