Assistant Project Manager (Civils Package)

We are seeking a **talented Assistant Project Manager **to support the safe and successful delivery of the Civils package of works as part of a major infrastructure upgrade at HMNB Devonport. You will aid in planning, directing, managing and overseeing the implementation of works, ensuring all objectives meet the agreed schedule, budget, and health, safety and quality parameters.
⚠️ Important Note: Due to the nature of this Defence project, candidates must be eligible to obtain security clearance (SC). Existing SC clearance is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Support the NSST and Enabling Works Package Manager in day-to-day package delivery.
- Assist in managing the berth wall strengthening package from design through to close-out.
- Support the design development process, including reviewing and engaging with design submissions.
- Help manage procurement activities, such as reviewing and appointing subcontractors in collaboration with the commercial team.
- Provide support to construction managers and monitor site progress against programme deliverables.
- Manage and review contractor reporting and dashboarding.
- Attend progress meetings with the client and supply chain, and chair them when necessary.
- Monitor contractor design, programme deliverables, and safe systems of work.
- Oversee key quality sign-offs, FAT (Final Acceptance Test) activities, and technical document submissions.
- Assist in the review of changes, RFIs (Requests for Information), TQs (Technical Queries), and advise on scope or programme impacts.

Requirements
- Experience in reinforced concrete construction and temporary works.
- Experience with engineering design processes.
- Familiarity with NEC4 contract management and procurement processes.
- Knowledge of construction contract administration systems (e.g., CEMAR).
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Experience working in regulated industries (nuclear, aviation, rail, or similar).
- Understanding of design and quality standards, including Eurocodes and British Standards.
- Awareness of key legislation such as:
- HASAWA 1974 (Health and Safety at Work) Act
- CDM 2015 (Construction Design and Management Regulations)
- PUWER 1998 (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations)
- LOLER 1998 (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations)
- Relevant qualification (Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent) and a valid CSCS card.
