About The Role
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support Southern Water’s Reservoir Maintenance Programme across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. A core focus will be aligning Southern Water with the DWI industry standard of 1-, 3-, & 5-year inspections for all service reservoirs.
What You Will Be Responsible For
As Assistant Project Manager, your role will include:
- Ensuring the number of reservoir inspections delivered aligns with programme forecasts.
- Coordinating reservoir maintenance programmes, liaising with Operations and Contractors to:
- Meet governance processes.
- Deliver work on time and to appropriate standards.
- Investigating and inspecting reservoirs, contact tanks, break pressure tanks, and other water storage assets:
- Confirming physical isolation is achievable and complying with network demands.
- Maintaining the highest Health & Safety standards on-site, including:
- Reviewing contractor working practices.
- Evaluating contractor H&S documentation.
- Producing Emergency Isolation Plans, detailing:
- Valve operations.
- Environmental constraints.
- Stakeholder engagement.
- Creating risk assessments, method statements, and Scope of Works (SCOs) for reservoir isolation.
- Managing contractor engagements for small-scale enabling works where required.
- Undertaking additional assignments as directed by project managers.
- Ensuring well-developed processes and documentation:
- Focusing on timely, professional, and persuasive content.
- Validating contractor progress based on project manager directives.
- Identifying and escalating risks to programme deadlines, costs, and quality.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Hands-on experience (preferably in valve operations).
- Strong understanding of water processes or networks.
- Solid IT skills and high levels of organisation.
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and prioritise tasks.
- Experience in a project environment is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Strong operational background will also be valued.
