Description
The Assistant Project Manager will support the Project Manager to deliver safe, on-time, on-budget mains water projects. You will assist with planning, site preparation, stakeholder engagement, traffic and excavation coordination, quality assurance, health & safety, reporting, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager with project planning, pre-site visits, and developing programme, resource, and budget inputs.
- Assist coordination of pre-site activities and on-site delivery: traffic management, excavation, asset installation, reinstatement, and site clearance.
- Maintain accurate project records, monitor progress, prepare regular progress reports, and update schedules using project management tools.
- Liaise with stakeholders (local authorities, utilities, contractors, the public) and help organise meetings and permit coordination.
- Help manage contractors, suppliers, and site teams; support performance reviews and promote effective teamwork.
- Support risk management: identify risks, log incidents/near-misses, and assist with corrective actions.
- Assist with budget monitoring, identify cost-saving opportunities, and report variances.
- Help implement and promote health & safety, carry out site checks, and deliver safety briefings.
- Support quality assurance activities, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Experience in water utility engineering projects.
- Knowledge of traffic management, excavation/site works, and industry health & safety standards.
- Strong organisational, time-management, and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent stakeholder and contractor management; clear verbal and written communicator.
- Willingness to work on site and travel between locations as required.
- Desirable qualifications: NRSWA Supervisors, water hygiene, and SHEA water Qualifications. Full UK driving licence preferred.
