Assistant Project Planner

Fusion's Assistant Project Planner Role

About Fusion Energy at UKAEA

Fusion—the process that powers the sun and stars—is one of the most promising ways to generate cleaner, carbon-free energy. UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) leads global efforts to realise fusion energy, partnering with industry and researchers to pioneer advancements. Our mission is to deliver fusion electricity to the grid by developing tomorrow’s power stations and the skilled workforce to make it happen.

The Role

As an Assistant Project Planner, you’ll collaborate with Project Managers, Technical Leads, and key stakeholders to create, refine, and track project plans that drive our programmes and projects forward. You’ll provide clarity on scope, milestones, dependencies, and resources—ensuring delivery remains realistic, achievable, and aligned with business goals.

This role is ** multicultural**, spanning diverse projects. You’ll shape project planning, monitor performance, and provide actionable insights—from risk identification to decision-support measures—across the entire project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and maintain project schedules, keeping activities, milestones, and dependencies clearly defined and updated.
  • Work alongside Project Managers and technical teams to translate project scope into realistic, executable plans.
  • Develop Product Breakdown Structures (PBS), Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), and detailed project schedules.
  • Monitor progress, pinpoint risks, and report schedule delays, suggesting remedies—optionally leading junior planners.
  • Conduct critical path analysis, scenario planning, and schedule reviews to ensure effective delivery.
  • Forecast and optimize resource allocation and resource levelling efforts.
  • Compile project performance reports, dashboards, and KPIs for governance and leadership teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define dependencies and integrate programme planning efforts.
  • Advise on best practices for project planning and controls and advocate for continuous process improvement.
  • Mentor more experienced junior planners.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
