Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed graduate with an interest in developing clinical experience and skills, to join our friendly, busy and innovative long covid psychology service.
As an assistant psychologist you will provide psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. You will assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. You will assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.
Main duties of the job
- To undertake protocol based psychological assessment and interventions with clients, including, self-report measures, rating scales.
- To ensure care is delivered within a culturally informed framework, addressing health inequalities and equity of access to care provided.
- To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, in both community and residential settings.
- To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups, including pre group sessions.
- To work with other staff to assess patients and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.
- To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.
- To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
Working for our organisation
The long COVID psychology service is a specialist service for individuals who have post-Covid syndrome and is embedded within a wider post COVID pathway. The pathway consists of multidisciplinary teams in the community and all include psychologists as key members of the MDTs. The provision is focussed on assessment, triage, diagnostic clarification, signposting and case management. Interventions include groups and individual treatment sessions.

The psychology provision is run in partnership between CNWL and CLCH NHS Trust.
The post will cover all of NWL. There will be a requirement to attend some meetings in person and provide face-to-face interventions. However, the postholder will be able to work remotely, including working from home for the majority of the week.

Person specification
Training And Qualifications
Essential criteria
- An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology.
- Entitlement to graduate basis for Chartership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society.

Desirable criteria
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, physical & mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
- A/A* A-Level (or equivalent), First-class degree or Relevant degree project.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Work with people with mental and / or psychical health problems and /or other disabilities.
- Experience that supports working in diverse communities, addressing health inequalities, challenging stigma and discrimination.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of work in a clinical health psychology service.
- Experience of paid work in direct care provision.
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
- High level of communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
- High level of knowledge and skill in using digital tools relevant to clinical and administrative functions, including teaching others.
Desirable criteria
- Ability to provide care in a language in addition to English that is spoken in our local communities.
Personal Attributes
Essential criteria
- An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines.
- Able to manage personal stress related to working with distressed people with life-altering conditions, adverse experiences of the healthcare systems, mental health conditions, etc.
- Ability to work independently reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
Desirable criteria
- An interest in working with people with post COVID syndrome.
Other
Essential criteria
- Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively.
Desirable criteria
- A desire to explore a career in Professional Psychology.
