Assistant Psychologist
Assistant Psychologist – Older Adult Inpatient Psychology Service
Band 4 18-month Fixed-Term Contract Thurrock Community Hospital, Grays
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic Psychology graduate passionate about supporting older adult inpatient welfare through meaningful psychological care. The Assistant Psychologist role will play a key part in Psychological Services for Older People across South Essex. The successful candidate will assist in psycho-social assessments and evidence-based interventions, including talking therapy and art psychotherapy, under supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
Collaborating with a diverse clinical team, the post holder will contribute to inpatient dementia and mental health assessments, facilitating individual and group interventions while managing administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contributing to individual/group therapy sessions under supervision.
- Preparing intervention materials and maintaining case administration.
- Supporting supervision and professional development.
- Ensuring equitable, responsive service delivery across wards.

Requirement and Selection
A degree in psychology must confer Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (previously GBR).
Shortlisting Criteria: Applicants must answer two questions (under 500 words):
- "What are the common themes and challenges working with older people?"
- "What would you bring to the role to ensure safe and effective inpatient care?"
Only degree holders (not undergraduates) will be shortlisted.
Note: Early closure possible due to high application volume.
