Assistant Psychologist

Assistant Psychologist – Adult Mental Health Services, North Wales

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Psychologist with excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with people.

  • Develop under the guidance of an established North Wales Adult Mental Health (AMH) Clinical Psychology & Psychological Therapies team

The post is based in the Central area of North Wales and involves full-time work.


In partnership with the DCLINPSYCH training course (University of Wales, Bangor), this role offers a career pathway for candidates looking to advance in clinical psychology.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

Under the supervision of qualified clinical psychologists, the post-holder will:

  • Support the development of psychological therapies in accordance with Matrics Cymru’s stepped care model
  • Assist qualified mental health staff in providing mild to moderate mental health interventions
  • Learn and develop skills in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and group work
  • Collaborate on service evaluations, audits, and projects
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and other relevant discussions
  • Contribute to ongoing service improvement

Preferred Qualities:

  • Ability to work in Welsh or English (Welsh language skills are desirable but not mandatory).

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Criteria

Education & Knowledge:

  • Degree classification of 2:1 Honours in Psychology (or equivalent qualification for overseas-trained applicants).
  • Eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to work with people of varying mental health or complex needs, including therapeutic assessment or support work.

Desirable Criteria

Education & Training:

  • Attendance at skills development courses in therapeutic or psychological practice.

Experience:

  • Experience in mental health including:
    • Understanding of a range of mental health difficulties.
    • Substantial hands-on therapeutic experience across multiple settings.
    • Group work facilitation skills.
