Assistant Psychologist (Fixed Term/Secondment) – North Wales
Job Overview
THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT FOR 24 MONTHS DUE TO THE NECESSITIES OF THE SERVICE.

The Living Well Service’s Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) comprises professionals including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Clinical Psychologists, Dietitians, and Speech & Language Therapists. Our collective goal is to deliver a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment and formulation with our clients, identifying and implementing targeted interventions to:
- Prevent chronic disability.
- Support individuals in functioning at their best despite life-limiting conditions.
About the Role
We are recruiting two Assistant Psychologists (based in central and west areas of North Wales). Ideal candidates should:
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and practical experience working with people.
- Embrace clinical excellence and seek opportunities for professional development.
- Work confidently under supervision while following direct instruction effectively.
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and adapt to the service’s evolving needs.
Key Responsibilities
Together with the clinical psychology team, the post-holder will:
- Assist with psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions under qualified psychologist supervision.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across other disciplines (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, Speech & Language Therapy, Advanced Clinical Practitioners).
- Work with external agencies and departments involved in service provision.

Specific duties include:
- Conducting psychological assessments by administering validated psychometric tests, self-report measures, and rating scales, including semi-structured interviews under supervision.
- Participating in the formulation and delivery of care plans for individual and group-based psychological treatment.
- Attending and contributing to multi-disciplinary team meetings.
The ability to speak Welsh (or a willingness to learn) is desirable, but there is no preference over English/Welsh speakers.

Person Specification
Qualifications: Essential Criteria
- Degree in psychology (or equivalent).
- Upper second-class honours (2:1) or higher.
- Eligible for BFPO (British Psychological Society) graduate membership.
Experience: Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in psychological work with people of diverse needs, including:
- Physical or mental health challenges.
- Learning or developmental disabilities.
- Practical experience with psychometric assessment tools.
- Capacity to function effectively as part of a multidisciplinary Mental Health/Learning Disability team.
Desirable Experience
- Understandings of psychological assessments and intervention planning.
- Familiarity with database management and clinical audit frameworks.
Aptitudes & Skills
Essential
- Ability to proactively utilise clinical supervision.
- Capacity for working independently with supervision.
- Strong verbal, written, numerical, and computer-related skills.
- Sensitivity to the diverse and emotive needs of clients and teams.
