We are looking for enthusiastic psychology graduates to work within the Gwent Attachment Service. We believe that the most important relationships for children are with those closest to them and those they see in their day to day lives. We are passionate about supporting a strong support network around children, who have the knowledge, reflective space and capacity to make sense of the difficulties they experience. The majority of our work is at the level of the systems around children and families.
The post holders will be part of a hugely supportive, creative and warm team. The Gwent Attachment Service sits within a large and thriving Child and Family Psychological Health Service, and has weekly meetings with the wider service. There are a lot of opportunities for CPD alongside the other members of the department and we have strong links with the Clinical Doctorate Programme.
This post if fixed term/secondment for up to 7 months until 31st March 2027 to meet the needs of the service. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
Main duties of the job
We have had Assistant Psychology posts in our service since it began and we place a high value on the contribution of our Assistants to the design, delivery and evaluation of our service. We have a rigorous evaluation programme to capture the impact of our work. Our Assistant Psychologists take responsibility for co-designing, maintaining and analysing our dataset, and previous post holders have been lead authors on a number of articles submitted for publication as a result. We are therefore seeking candidates with a passion for, and a high level of skill and experience in research and evaluation.

Education And Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Good Honours Degree in Psychology (First or Second Class)
- Eligibility for Graduate Membership of the BPS
Desirable criteria
- Post Graduate Research Degree
Experience
Desirable criteria
- Previous work as an Assistant Psychologist
- Previous work within a Health Care or Social Care setting
- Previous work with children
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate (verbally and written) and relate to others in situations that can be complex.
- Ability to plan and organises own workload
- Must be capable of using initiative and working independently
Desirable criteria
- Ability to use a range of IT skills, for example, statistical packages, graphic packages and databases
- Understanding of children's development
- Understanding of Attachment Theory
