About The Role

The Assistant Publisher is responsible for the maintenance and development of a portfolio of journals across a related subject area. This role involves:

  • Evaluating performance against company and department objectives
  • Managing editor performance
  • Maintaining relationships with scientific editors and board members

Job Responsibilities

Content Growth

  • Meet objectives regarding content production, including submissions, acceptances, and published articles

Editor Management

  • Maintain relationships with a network of scientific editors and board members
  • Engage regularly to build awareness and gather feedback
  • Manage daily journal and editor performance via regular check-ins

Contractual Relationships

  • Negotiate and oversee contractual agreements with journal editors
  • Set performance targets and rotate editors per senior team direction
  • Participate in appointments interviews and offer recommendations on editor hiring

Reporting

  • Prepare and present activity reports to Associate Director and Senior Director

Collaboration

  • Support external reporting, end-to-end publishing services, and title-level business growth through cross-departmental partnerships

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Conceptual knowledge of research trends and publishing standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills to optimise programmes within existing processes
  • Excellent communication to explain and implement strategic changes
  • Able to receive clear direction from managers
  • Presentation and storytelling expertise to deliver impactful updates
  • Growth mindset with a learner’s attitude

Salary Range (GBP)

£27,400 – £37,333 (UK, Canada, US, AU, and EMEA markets; subject to location, skills, and specific position needs)
