About the Role
The Assistant Publisher is responsible for the maintenance and development of a list of journals across a related subject area. This role involves:
- Evaluating program performance against company and department objectives
- Managing editor performance
- Maintaining relationships with scientific editors and board members
Job Responsibilities
Content Growth
- Meet objectives for content growth, including submissions, acceptances, and published articles
Editor Management
- Maintain a strong network of scientific editors and board members
- Engage regularly to build awareness and gather feedback
- Manage daily journal and editor performance through regular meetings
Contractual Relationships
- Negotiate and manage contractual relationships with journal editors
- Set performance targets and implement editor rotation as directed by senior teams
- Participate in interviews and recommend appointments for editors

Reporting
- Organize, maintain, and report activities timely to the Associate Director and Senior Director
Collaboration
- Contribute to external reporting
- Support end-to-end publishing services and title-level business growth
- Collaborate with internal colleagues across multiple publishing units
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Conceptual knowledge of trends in research and research publishing
- Problem-solving skills to optimize routine processes in your program
- Ability to communicate changes effectively to align titles with strategic priorities
- Willingness to follow manager direction
- Ability to create and deliver impactful presentations
- Learning mindset

Wiley prides itself on transparency and pays fairly. Base pay in the UK/Canada/USA ranges between £27,400 and £37,333 GBP, with potential variability based on factors such as workplace, skills, and alignment with company goals.
