About The Role

Location: Your contractual base will be Wellingborough, Northampton, and you will be required to attend the office a minimum of one day per week, with travel to other office locations as required.

At Balfour Beatty, we deliver the infrastructure that supports communities across the UK. We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team and support the successful delivery of our projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Quantity Surveying graduate or someone in the final stages of their degree looking to develop their career within a leading infrastructure business. You'll work alongside experienced commercial professionals, gaining hands-on experience across cost management, procurement, commercial administration and project delivery.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting the commercial team in managing project costs and maximising value.
  • Measuring, recording and valuing completed works in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assisting with the preparation of cost reconciliation statements and commercial reporting.
  • Gathering and analysing construction cost data.
  • Supporting procurement activities, including the preparation and collation of procurement documentation.
  • Assisting with subcontractor measurement, valuations and agreements.
  • Supporting weekly and monthly works programmes.
  • Using company systems to manage project and commercial information.
  • Maintaining accurate records and project documentation.
  • Working closely with operational and commercial teams to support successful project delivery.

Who we're looking for

Essential

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic approach to learning and development.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to travel to different offices.

Desirable

  • Previous construction, infrastructure or engineering industry experience.
  • Understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor.
  • Industry placement, internship or relevant work experience.
  • Working towards professional membership with RICS, CIOB or ICES.
  • Knowledge of commercial management and procurement processes.
