Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Glasgow Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 days office-based, 2 days working from home)

Altrad are currently looking for an ambitious and motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Glasgow.

About the Role This is an excellent opportunity for a post-graduate commercial professional looking to develop their career within a highly regulated and technically complex environment. The purpose of the role is to provide quantity surveying and commercial support to project infrastructure procurements and associated costing activities. Working closely with experienced commercial professionals, Project Managers, and the wider project team, the successful candidate will assist in the management of costs, contracts, reporting, and commercial administration while developing their professional knowledge and experience. The role will require ongoing interaction with the Commercial team and wider Joint Project Team (JPT), with a strong emphasis on supporting the Project Manager in maintaining an understanding of project schedules, payment applications, and cost performance. The role is expected to be undertaken in a hybrid working arrangement from Glasgow City Centre.

Key Responsibilities Support the review of contractor compensation event quotations and cost submissions. Assist Commercial and Project teams with cost assurance activities and contract administration. Attend programme and commercial meetings, taking actions and supporting reporting requirements. Assist in the preparation of commercial advice relating to payment applications, compensation events, retention release, and contract administration matters. Support the assessment and recommendation of subcontractor payments. Assist in drafting responses to Early Warnings, compensation events, quotations, and project instructions. Support payment assessments, forecasting activities, and periodic commercial reporting. Maintain purchase order values and support invoice management processes. Administer and maintain commercial records within CEMAR. Support weekly Early Warning and commercial meetings. Assist with cost reporting, payment tracking, forecasting, and risk management activities. Contribute to the delivery of periodic performance and commercial reporting.

Key Requirements: Essential Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline – applicants must have already completed their degree. Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Graduate Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Assistant, or similar commercial role. Understanding of quantity surveying principles and commercial processes within construction, infrastructure, engineering, or major projects. Working knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC4 preferred). Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. UK National with, or eligible to obtain, SC Clearance. Willingness to learn and develop within a complex project environment.

Desirable Experience using CEMAR. Experience working on major projects within regulated industries such as nuclear, defence, energy, rail, or infrastructure. Working towards professional membership with RICS or equivalent professional body. NEC4 accreditation or training. Experience supporting commercial reporting, forecasting, and cost management activities.
