Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Location: Bristol
Sector: Construction & Refurbishment
Salary: Up to £45,000 + Package
The Opportunity
A leading regional contractor is looking to recruit an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team in Bristol.
Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers, you'll gain exposure to a varied portfolio of refurbishment and construction projects across sectors including education, healthcare, commercial, residential and public buildings. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their commercial career within a contractor renowned for delivering high-quality projects and maintaining long-standing client relationships.
You'll be involved in every stage of the commercial process, receiving ongoing mentoring and support while building the skills required to progress into a Quantity Surveyor role.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for:
- Assisting with the commercial management of multiple refurbishment and construction projects
- Supporting the preparation of CVRs, cost reports and financial forecasts
- Assisting with subcontractor procurement and tender analysis
- Preparing subcontract orders and managing subcontractor accounts
- Supporting the valuation and agreement of project variations
- Assisting with applications for payment and interim valuations
- Monitoring project costs and identifying commercial risks
- Supporting the preparation of final accounts
- Working closely with Site Managers and Project Managers to ensure commercial objectives are achieved
- Maintaining accurate commercial records and documentation
- Attending project and client meetings where required
- Assisting senior members of the commercial team with day-to-day project delivery

About You
- Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Trainee Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry
- Experience working for a main contractor would be advantageous
- Good understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
- Knowledge of CVRs, cost reporting and subcontractor procurement
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Degree qualified or currently studying Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Eager to learn and progress within a supportive commercial team
- Full UK driving licence
