The Opportunity

Join Holcim as an Assistant Quarry Manager at our strategic hardstone quarry near Launceston, Cornwall. Producing approximately 400ktpa, this site is a key operation in our network supplying asphalt plants across the South West region as well as local construction projects. This role is your chance to lead quarry production, extraction, and restoration activities while driving operational excellence. You’ll manage safety, compliance, and workforce performance, ensuring the quarry runs efficiently and sustainably.

  • Act as the Statutory 8.1(D) Manager, ensuring compliance with the Quarries Regulations 1999 and other relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Oversee financial performance, ensuring the site operates within budget and all financial reporting requirements are met.
  • Ensure operations comply with planning permissions, environmental permits, and the geotechnical quarry design plans.
  • Lead the team in maintaining production targets while managing drilling, blasting, and extraction activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and inspections, ensuring a safe working environment and continuous improvement.
  • Manage and develop the workforce, ensuring effective recruitment, training, and performance management.

Who You Are

You’re an experienced Assistant Quarry Manager with strong leadership, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to site management. Your ability to oversee complex quarrying operations and drive performance makes you an essential part of the business.

  • Extensive experience in quarry operations, including drilling, blasting, and extraction.
  • SHE NVQ Level 3 or QCF equivalent, with a strong understanding of quarry regulations and geological factors in quarry design and IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous.
  • Excellent planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with strong communication skills to manage teams and liaise with commercial and distribution departments.
  • Highly organised, results-driven, and financially aware, with the ability to manage budgets and cost controls effectively.
