Role Overview

Arcadis is seeking an Assistant Risk Manager to join our Defence and Security Sector, supporting UK’s most critical and high-profile programmes. This is an ideal opportunity for early-career professionals looking to develop expertise in risk management within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

You will work alongside Project Managers, Risk Managers, and cross-functional teams to support the implementation of effective risk management processes, ensuring alignment with project objectives, cost controls, and performance discipline.


Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Risk Manager, your role will include:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of risk management processes, aligning them with client requirements, programme objectives, and organisational standards.
  • Assisting Project Managers in identifying, assessing, and managing risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensuring the maintenance and development of risk registers, including clear definitions, assessments, and active tracking of risks.
  • Contributing to qualitative and quantitative risk assessments (e.g., using @Risk, Primavera Risk Analysis) under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Integrating risk management with project controls, including scheduling, cost management, and performance reporting.
  • Supporting the preparation of risk reports and dashboards, providing structured insights for informed decision-making.
  • Monitoring and tracking risk mitigation actions, ensuring progress is recorded and escalations are managed appropriately.
  • Participating in workshops and stakeholder engagements, supporting collaborative risk identification and management.
  • Assisting in the drafting of reports and deliverables, ensuring adherence to project scope, budgetary constraints, compliance, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • A relevant professional qualification (or equivalent), such as:
    • APM Risk Certificate
    • IRM Certificate
  • Some experience or exposure to Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) techniques (e.g., Primevera Risk Analysis, Safran), with a willingness to develop cost and schedule risk models.
  • Aware of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) tools (e.g., Active Risk Manager (ARM), Predict!).
  • A developing understanding of how risk management integrates with project controls, including:
    • Planning, scheduling
    • Cost management
    • Change control
    • Reporting
  • A collaborative and proactive attitude, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and engage with clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Good communication and organisational skills, including:
    • Facilitating discussions
    • Contributing to risk workshops and reports
  • Prior experience or exposure to risk management in projects, programmes, or academic work, with a desire to progress to programme-level delivery.
  • A degree or qualification in:
    • Engineering
    • Project management
    • Construction
    • (or similar relevant fields)
  • Preference for candidates with risk management experience in the Nuclear or Defence sectors.

  • Understanding of Cost, Commercial, Estimating, Planning, Reporting, and Quality disciplines across the programme lifecycle.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
  • Experience achieving DV clearance.
