We are seeking an organized, passionate, and dedicated Assistant SENCO (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) to join our team. Your role will be essential in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping to coordinate provisions, and ensuring every student has the tools to succeed.

This position is a fixed-term maternity cover based at Harris Academy Greenwich, an outstanding and highly supportive academy. You will work closely with the SENCO and a dedicated team of educators to maintain a nurturing, structured, and inclusive environment for academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the SENCO in managing and coordinating day-to-day SEND provision across the school.
  • Lead and deploy small-group interventions and support strategies for pupils with additional learning needs.
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs.
  • Monitor, track, and report on the progress of students receiving SEND support.
  • Liaise regularly with teachers, parents, and external specialists to ensure a collaborative approach to student welfare.
  • Act as a senior point of contact within the classroom support team, modeling best practices for teaching assistants.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working as an HLTA, Assistant SENCO, or within a senior SEND support capacity in a secondary school.
  • Strong, up-to-date knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP processes, and intervention planning.
  • Outstanding communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Full right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not available).
