Assistant Shop Manager

Location: Wallingford Hours: 22.5 hours per week (including weekend rota) Salary: £15,052.20 per annum (full-time equivalent: £25,087 per annum pro rata) Closing Date: 14th July 2026 at 12 noon

About the Role

Are you passionate about supporting our charity and eager to contribute to a meaningful mission? Join Helen & Douglas House as an Assistant Shop Manager in our Wallingford shop. We are offering a permanent part-time position, working 22.5 hours per week.

You will play a vital role in our busy shop, working alongside a team of volunteers to maximise sales profits while providing exceptional customer service. Previous experience in charity retail would be beneficial, but we prioritise the right attitude and willingness to learn. Full training will be provided.

This role will push you to develop strong organisational and IT skills, invest in a good eye for detail, and equip you with the capability to manage volunteer teams effectively in diverse situations. You will be supported by the Shop Manager and Area Manager to achieve your objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in driving shop sales profits and supporting the organisation’s mission.
  • Deliver spectacular customer service to shoppers.
  • Manage volunteer teams and ensure a positive working environment.
  • Work weekends on a flexible rota system, depending on business needs and volunteer availability.
  • Work collaboratively to improve delivery of care through innovation and continuous feedback.
  • Represent the charity with pride and responsibility.

Requirements

  • A committed and driven attitude to succeed in a busy and varied role.
  • Strong organisational skills to balance multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Proficient IT skills to manage operational tasks.
  • The ability to manage teams and support volunteer roles in different scenarios.
  • Flexibility to adjust working hours based on the shop’s rotational system.
  • Willingness to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
