Role Overview
The Assistant Site Manager will be directly responsible to the Site Manager for the effective and efficient delivery of services within the school, undertaking porterage and maintenance tasks including decorating and basic plumbing and carpentry.
Purpose of the Role
To provide a comprehensive caretaking service at the school to ensure school needs and contract requirements are fully met.
To contribute to the creation of a high-quality learning environment for pupils and staff that is clean, well maintained, safe and secure.
The successful candidate will be required to complete a security check prior to appointment.
Role Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- To be a key holder of the site.
- Ensure effective day to day running of the area under your responsibility.
- To undertake reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) as per schedules.
- Assist in managing all subcontractor attendance and activities to ensure all health and safety and procedural requirements are met.
- Carry out escort duties as required.
- To ensure the external areas are kept clean and tidy including removal of waste from bins, litter picking and sweeping as necessary.
- Ensure corridors and fire exits are kept clear of any obstacles and report any defects.
- Assist in conjunction with the school staff the holding of fire drills as required with the Site Manager.
- Ensure that all chemicals are stored in accordance with COSHH regulations.
- To report any/all repairs to the Mitie helpdesk and facilitate closure accordingly.
- To facilitate all furniture moves as required maintaining good working practices in line with manual handling requirements.
- Take in deliveries and distribute across the site as required.
- To maintain a good working and safe environment.
- To maintain records to evidence compliance in both statutory obligations and processes.
- To ensure that all relevant equipment is correctly utilised and maintained and report any defect to your Line Manager.
- To attend training as required.
- To wear the correct uniform, PPE and issued ID at all times.
- To work at other sites across the contract in relation to service demands when necessary.
- Be aware of the business continuity plan for the part of the business you work in.
- To maintain the security of the site at all times ensuring safeguarding measures adhered to.
- Challenge unknown persons on site and escort off site any unauthorised persons.
- Ensure all Safeguarding Policies are always adhered to and raise any concerns in line with the Mitie policy.
- Carry out any ad-hoc duties deemed necessary by Management to fulfil the school and contract requirements.

- Previous caretaking experience (preferred but not essential).
- Reliable, hardworking, and professional attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Open, honest, self-driven, and determined.
- Commitment to safeguarding and confidentiality, with willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
