Assistant Site Manager

Assistant Site Manager – Wren’s Nest Primary School

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council is looking to recruit an Assistant Site Manager to support the Site Manager in maintaining and overseeing school operations at Wren’s Nest Primary School, a dynamic, family-focused establishment with 550 pupils aged 2–11 years.

The school prides itself on its passion for improving outcomes and offering children a safe, engaging environment throughout their learning journey.


About the Role

As the Assistant Site Manager, you will take on a key operational role, ensuring the health, safety, cleanliness, and functional integrity of the school site. Your responsibilities will span maintenance, security, health & safety compliance, and administrative support, aligned with the broader needs of the school community.

This post is critical to maintaining excellent facilities and supporting students, staff, and visitors alike.


Key Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Carry out general maintenance, repairs, and decorating on school buildings and grounds.
  • Operate and maintain small industrial/electrical/mechanical equipment safely.
  • Oversee (or assist with) daily cleaning schedules for staff and contractors.
  • Implement and monitor security protocols, including opening/closing duties, elections/checking stations, and lettings management.
  • Ensure energy efficiency and conservation (e.g., heating systems, emergency procedures).
  • Coordinate indoor/outdoor maintenance, such as groundskeeping, furniture management, and adherence to weather safety protocols during adverse conditions.

People & Logistics Management

  • Organise and supervise cleaners, contractors, and supply deliveries.
  • Provide sickness/annual leave cover during organised shifts, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Handle emergency calls and unexpected issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Work on a flexible schedule, including potential weekend shifts during holidays for school-related contracts.

Compliance & Commitment

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Current DBS check (enhanced disclosure in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974).
  • Right to work in the UK (evident through documentation).
  • Practical skills in:
    • Basic building repairs (including light electrical and/or plumbing amendments).
    • Decorating and painting.
    • Groundskeeping and maintenance.
  • Competency with small equipment (e.g., lawnmowers, generators, pressure washers).
  • Ability to train effectively if required.
  • Experience in safeguarding environments (preferable at a school level).

Personal Attributes

✔ Dependable & diligent: Can work across two 2-week shifts per week (either 6:45am–3:30pm or 10:00am–6:30pm). ✔ Team-oriented: Work effectively under the Site Manager’s guidance or independently with minimal supervision. ✔ Problem-solving: Diagnose on-site issues and resolve them promptly. ✔ Child safety awareness: Understand your duties towards maintaining a safe school environment. ✔ Flexibility: Adapt to varying demand (holidays, contractor schedules, school lettings). ✔ Clear communication: Liaise with school staff, cleaners, and third-party contractors.


Salary & Contract Terms

  • Full-time, permanent contract (40 hours per week, composed of two shifts pattern for 19 hours per week).
