Assistant Site Manager – Residential Construction

Location: Oxford

Rate: Competitive Day Rate

Duration: Long-Term Freelance

Start: Immediate

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an Assistant Site Manager to join one of the UK's leading residential developers, renowned for delivering high-quality, sustainable communities and mixed-tenure developments across the country. The business has an excellent reputation for creating vibrant new neighbourhoods, combining private and affordable housing with strong community-focused design and exceptional build standards.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, an opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Assistant Site Manager to join a major residential scheme in Oxford on a long-term freelance basis.

The Role

As Assistant Site Manager, you will support the Site Manager and Senior Management team in the day-to-day running of the development, ensuring homes are delivered safely, on programme, and to the highest quality standards.

You will be involved in all aspects of site management, including:

  • Subcontractor coordination
  • Health and safety compliance
  • Quality inspections
  • Programme management
  • Customer care

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to further develop their career on a large, well-organised residential development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily management of site activities and subcontractors.
  • Support the delivery of housing units in line with programme requirements.
  • Coordinate labour, plant, materials, and site logistics.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Carry out quality inspections, snagging, and handover procedures.
  • Monitor progress against programme targets and assist with production meetings.
  • Ensure site records and documentation are maintained accurately.
  • Work closely with technical, commercial, and customer care teams.
  • Assist with site inductions, toolbox talks, and maintaining a positive safety culture.
  • Support the Site Manager in driving programme performance and achieving project milestones.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as an Assistant Site Manager within residential construction.
  • Experience on housing developments, apartment schemes, or mixed-use projects would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to coordinate subcontractors and manage multiple work streams.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail.
  • Passionate about delivering high-quality homes and excellent customer satisfaction.

Essential Qualifications

  • SMSTS or SSSTS
  • CSCS Card
  • First Aid at Work
