Assistant Site Manager
# Assistant Site Manager – Automated Storage Systems A leading contractor specialising in smart, high-performance storage environments
Our client, a market-leading contractor designing and building storage solutions across industries (from shelving and racking to mezzanines and Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems), is ideal for someone passionate about warehouse automation, structural steelwork, conveyor installations, and cross-discipline project delivery.
About the Role
An Assistant Site Manager position is available to support the delivery and installation of a major Automated Storage System (AS/RS) across two locations: Milton Keynes and Northampton. This role targets professionals with hands-on experience in industrial warehouse construction, particularly in areas involving:
- Automation integration (e.g., robotics, control systems)
- Conveyor system installation
- Structural steelwork and bespoke racking
- Multi-disciplinary coordination during live projects
You will act as a conduit between civil, mechanical, electrical, and automation teams to ensure seamless handover of a fully automated storage solution.
Key Responsibilities
Site Operations & Project Coordination
- Oversee daily on-site installations of automated racking and warehouse technologies, adhering to schedules, quality standards, and health & safety protocols.
- Coordinate activities among:
- Civil contractors
- MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) teams
- Automation specialists
- Equipment suppliers and subcontractors
- Supervise racking and structural steelwork installations, ensuring compliance with tolerances and design requirements.

Technical & System Integration
- Lead integration of:
- Conveyor networks
- Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs)
- Control systems
- Warehouse automation hardware
- Work with system integrators to troubleshoot site-specific challenges and technical interfaces.
Stakeholder & supplier Liaison
- Partner with the principal contractor, system integrator, and project stakeholders to:
- Monitor progress
- Manage handovers
- Resolve cross-team dependencies
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce site health & safety protocols, including:
- Toolbox talks and inductions
- Permit management
- Incident reporting
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Project Administration
- Maintain detailed records:
- Progress reports
- Inspection logs
- Permits and quality records
- Safety documentation
Testing & Handovers
- Support testing, commissioning, and project handover in collaboration with automation engineers and equipment manufacturers.
Essential Skills & Experience
Applicants will demonstrate a combination of these qualifications and competencies:
- Minimum 3+ years of site supervision or management in industrial/logistics construction (warehouses, factories, logistics hubs).
- Familiarity with automated warehouse environments, including:
- AS/RS (Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems)
- Racking/installation
- Conveyor or materials handling systems
- Technical acumen in industrial racking systems, automation tech, and factory infrastructure.
- Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors and technical disciplines simultaneously.
- Drawing/research experience:
- Reading technical drawings, layouts, and engineering specifications
- Proficiency in:
- Construction/project management software (e.g. MS Project, AutoCAD)
- Certifications:
- SMSTS Health & Safety in Construction
- CSCS Card
- Valid First Aid at Work certificate.
