Assistant Space & Range Planner

Assistant Space & Range Planner – Retail Merchandising Role

Quest Search & Selection are currently hiring for a Assistant Space & Range Planner who will support the branch, category and merchandising team in delivering the retail strategy for grocery, gifting & seasonal products.

In this role, you will work across:

  • Range planning & stock forecasting
  • Merchandising activity
  • Space planning to optimise in-store customer experience
  • Partnership with Category Leads and execution of category strategies

You'll thrive with a leading seasonal retailer active across the UK, including tourist hotspots.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support retail growth strategy through:
    • Sales analysis & margin management
    • KPI performance tracking with Buying & Finance teams
  • Analyse customer insights, market trends and trading data to:
    • Inform category direction
    • Support stock forecasting and commercial decision-making
  • Create and review reporting on:
    • Best-seller performance
    • Stock optimisation
    • Trading analysis to drive improvements
  • Maintain product data, cost files and administrative systems, ensuring profitability in category management and pricing
  • Oversee product ranging, pricing and seasonal promotions across retail categories
  • Develop and implement:
    • Merchandising planograms
    • POS materials
    • Space planning initiatives
  • Conduct store visits, reviewing:
    • Merchandising standards
    • Product presentation
    • Range execution
  • Liaise with suppliers, manage tenders, and communicate around deliveries, merchandising and product updates
  • Support end-to-end bespoke product development, ensuring:
    • Quality & consistency
    • Margin delivery
    • On-time execution
  • Communicate promotions, range changes and merchandising updates across the retail estate

Key Requirements

  • Background in Merchandising, Buying, Space Planning, or POS Management
  • 3+ years experience in FMCG or retail sectors
  • Exposure to multiple product categories (preferably within grocery &/or non-food)
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and supporting buyer activities
  • Strong commercial awareness, with understanding of:
    • P&L performance
    • Sales trends
    • Margin drivers
  • Preferred: Experience in ranging, planograms and space planning/analysis
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Word with:
    • Report creation
  • Ability to balance customer, operational & commercial priorities while implementing strategies
