Assistant Store Manager – Fortnum & Mason

Fortnum & Mason has been the home of extraordinary experiences since 1707. We are now seeking an exceptional individual with a strong retail background to join us as Assistant Store Manager, helping us deliver world-class service and uphold our heritage of excellence.
As Assistant Store Manager, you will work closely with the Store Manager to ensure our store exceeds expectations in service, standards, and performance. You will unlock team potential by coaching, mentoring, and developing skills that create memorable experiences for every customer. Your role will involve coordinating daily operations, driving KPIs, and ensuring compliance with company objectives, vision, and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Coach and develop a strong sales team with a passion for delivering a sense of pleasure to all customers.
- Lead by example, with at least 70% of your time spent on the sales floor coaching, mentoring, and developing your team.
- Complete and deliver monthly 1-to-1 reviews in line with Company Objectives, Vision, and Values, including setting and reviewing individual goals.
- Communicate effectively and relay all relevant developments on the floor to team members.
- Demonstrate high levels of planning, organising, and time management to drive operational execution across the department.
- Oversee and ensure adherence to visual merchandising standards to deliver a superior customer and brand experience.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, controls, and standards, including:
- Due diligence
- Health & Safety (H&S)
- Security
- Maintenance
- Cash handling
- Uniform standards
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels, follow up on discrepancies, and ensure full stock availability for customers.
- Develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, collaborating on key commercial decisions.
- Work across the host operational team to maintain compliance across all business areas.

What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in retail management and team leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to run the shop floor efficiently, ensuring productivity and high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Strong understanding of recruitment and HR functions.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in IT and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data.
- Willingness to work varied shifts, including early mornings, late nights, and weekends.
- A passion for Luxury Food and storytelling.
