Assistant Store Manager – Permanent Full-Time Role at Matalan

About the Role
As an Assistant Store Manager at Matalan, you’ll:
- Role model Matalan’s core values to support the Store Manager in pursuing and exceeding sales and profit targets while delivering all agreed KPIs.
- Inspire your high-performing team to drive an exceptional visual merchandising (VM) proposition and maximise stock availability.
- Foster an excellent customer experience daily by engaging your store team in their professional growth.
- Collaborate with store management to improve performance, drive development, and build future leadership pipelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive a service-driven culture through coaching and best-practice sharing with the team.
- Extract commercial insights by daily analysis of sales performance, recorded floor walks, and delegation of key actions.
- Maintain full compliance and audit readiness across the store in all operations.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, addressing development needs and fostering transparent feedback.
- Ensure full alignment with the Matalan VM Guide in delivering an exceptional shopping experience.
About You
We’re looking for a candidate who demonstrates the following:
- Previous retail management experience, preferably in a volume-based retail environment.
- A proven track record in meeting performance targets and highlyDrive a service culture through coaching the team and sharing best practice Qualifications and Criteria:

- Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in English (Fisher 5+)
- Must be 16+ years old
- Access to a phone and email address, must supply these when applying for an interview
- This role requires physical exertion including standing, bending, reaching, lifting (up to 25kg) and walking

About the Role Highlights:
