Wates Property Services is looking to appoint an Assistant Surveyor to support the delivery of a major social housing planned maintenance and retrofit programme across the Dartford area.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious surveying professional looking to further develop their career within one of the UK's leading property services organisations. Working alongside an experienced commercial and operational team, you'll support the successful delivery of planned investment and retrofit works that improve homes, communities and residents' lives.
The Role
As an Assistant Surveyor, you will support the commercial management of planned maintenance and retrofit projects from inception through to completion, helping to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and within budget.
You'll Gain Exposure To a Variety Of Programmes, Including
- Retrofit and energy efficiency improvements
- External and internal planned maintenance works
- Decarbonisation projects
- Window and door replacement programmes
- Roofing and building fabric improvements
- Social housing refurbishment contracts
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the commercial management of planned works and retrofit contracts.
- Support the preparation of valuations, cost reports and forecasts.
- Monitor project costs and budget performance.
- Assist with subcontractor procurement and package management.
- Support the preparation and agreement of variations.
- Help maintain accurate commercial records and documentation.
- Work closely with operational teams, clients and supply chain partners.
- Support monthly reporting and commercial reviews.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual requirements.

About You
We're looking for an individual who is eager to develop their surveying career and contribute to the successful delivery of social housing projects.
Essential Requirements
- Degree qualified or working towards a qualification in:
- Quantity Surveying
- Commercial Management
- Construction Management
- Or a related surveying discipline
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and commercial reporting.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within social housing planned maintenance.
- Exposure to retrofit, sustainability or decarbonisation projects.
- Experience supporting commercial activities on construction or property services contracts.
- Knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts.
- Understanding of cost control, valuations and subcontract management.
